build scsi tape devices ;-)

magma and spif were moved into MAKEDEV.mi, remove from here

remove shell cases of magma* and spif* since they are now in MAKEDEV.mi

alpha gets speakers and midia a la music

clobbered by longjmp / vfork instead of the gcc "(void)&foo;" hack.

fail anyway so check for that.  Also convert "." to "" since that
way we avoid the lstat() (which we don't need) and the subsequent
chdir() and some dir checks.
